SOCIAL KARAOKE LEAGUE RULES

Yes, this is real. If you're looking to join a fun, social, team-based karaoke league, you're in the right spot!

We love the competition—but community comes first. These guidelines keep things fair, safe, and positive so everyone can sing their heart out and have a great night.

1) OUR SAFE SPACE PROMISE

Rare Karaoke Cafe is a place where everyone should feel welcome. By joining the league, you agree to:

~ Be Respectful

~ Treat everyone with dignity—every time

~ No heckling, harassment, bullying, or rude comments

~ Keep it supportive: cheer loud, critique never

~ Respect our staff, our venue, and each other
f
~ Keep It Consent-First

~ Not everyone wants attention—read the room

~ Pay attention to body language and boundaries

~ Ask first before touching anyone—always

~ Keep Sensitive Topics Civil (or Skip Them)

~ Be mindful of jokes, lyrics, or comments that could hurt others

~ If politics/lifestyle topics come up, keep it respectful—or move on

2) IF SOMETHING FEELS OFF: WHAT TO DO

If you see or experience behavior that doesn’t match the vibe:

Speak up (if you feel safe): Calmly say it’s not okay

Support: Check on the person affected and ask if they’re okay

Tell staff: Let a Rare team member know right away

Emergency: If someone is unsafe or threatened, get staff involved immediately and call 911 if needed

Important: Repeated issues can lead to warnings, removal from the league night, or being banned from the league/venue (no refunds).

3) HOW THE SEASON WORKS:

Most seasons run 7 weeks + a final playoff week

Some seasons may be shorter (“mini seasons”)

Each League Night Has 3 Rounds

Round 1: Solo or duet

Round 2: Solo, duet, or trio

Round 3: Full team group performance

Teams & Rosters

Up to 6 teams per division

Up to 8 people per team

If your team isn’t full, we may add free agents or combine small teams

Life happens: As long as 2 performers show up, your team can still compete that night.

4) VOTING & POINTS (KEEPING IT FAIR)

Anyone inside the venue during league play can vote

Votes from outside won’t count

Voting stays open briefly after each round, and your host will announce when it closes

Duplicate votes are automatically removed

Scoring:

Each matchup has 7 total points:

Round 1 = 2 points

Round 2 = 2 points

Round 3 = 3 points

Ties split the points

5) SONGS & PERFORMANCE RULES

Submit songs at least 24 hours ahead

Songs are first come, first served

A song can only be used once during regular season

Songs reset for playoffs

Mashups:

Want to mash up two songs? Get approval first so you don’t use a song someone already claimed that week.

“Graveyard” Songs:

If a song gets performed too often (or is just… a lot), Rare league staff may retire it from competition.

Participation Minimum:

Each performer must sing at least twice in Round 1 or 2 during the regular season (group round doesn’t count).

Props & Stage Rules

No unregistered audience members on stage as “props”

Quick setup: 1 minute max to set up and clean up

No changing venue lights or AV settings

6) KEEP THE VENUE SAFE (R-E-S-P-E-C-T RULES)

No:

~ Climbing on structures

~ Throwing anything (including liquids, confetti, glitter, food, etc.)

~ Spraying messy materials (silly string, paint, powders, glue, etc.)

~ Carrying or throwing another performer

~ Outside food or alcohol used in performances

~ Live animals (unless required by law/ADA)

~ Bare feet—shoes stay on

~ Clean up after yourselves and take props/trash with you.

7) PLAYOFFS + TIEBREAKERS

Playoffs follow the regular season standings. If teams tie, we break it with:

Most total points

Head-to-head result

Coin toss

Some playoff nights may include judges along with audience voting.
